The Prime Minister says selecting the next Governor-General isn’t high on his agenda, after overnight speculation the government is considering former defence chief, Angus Houston.
Princes Harry and William have also been mentioned as possible candidates along with former Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, but Scott Morrison said he’s “not thinking about it”.
Sir Peter Cosgrove’s term is due to finish in the middle of next year.
“I am thinking about how I’m going to get electricity prices down, deal with drought, aged care royal commission,” Mr Morrison said.
“I’m focused on getting taxes down. It is not something burning a hole in my agenda.
“We will make a decision in due course.”
