An agricultural engineer, Nuh Yiğit, has disappeared in the Black Sea province of Rize where he went earlier this week to look for a job, according to his family’s Twitter account.
“Police officials are not giving any information to Nuh Yiğit’s family members about his whereabouts,” a relative tweeted Tuesday.Social media users shared the news about the engineer’s disappearance, with many questioning whether Yiğit is being subjected to ill treatment at the Rize Police Station.Yiğit is not the only person who has gone missing during an ongoing state of emergency in the country that was declared in the aftermath of a failed coup attempt on July 15,2016.
The military coup attempt killed 249 people and wounded more than a thousand others. Immediately after the putsch, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government along with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the blame on the Gülen movement, led by US-based Turkish Islamic cleric Fethullah Gülen. The group denies the accusations.
Hundreds of human tragedies in Turkey have been reported since then, and many individuals in Turkey and abroad with alleged ties to the movement have gone missing.
