He added he would seek US District Judge Tanya Chutkan’s recusal as well as a change of venue outside of Washington.
No formal request to change judges was filed with the court as of midday on Sunday.
The US District Court for the District of Columbia did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Prosecutors feared the former leader might intimidate witnesses after another threatening social media post on Friday, leading them to file for a protective order.
The filing asked Judge Chutkan to issue a protective order prohibiting Mr Trump and his lawyers from sharing any discovery materials with unauthorised people.
He has until 5pm on Monday to respond to the proposed order.
Mr Trump’s lawyer John Lauro said the former president’s alleged actions in the wake of his 2020 election loss were requests and not directives.
Mr Lauro also criticised the protective order.
“Every single thing that President Trump is being prosecuted for involved aspirational asks — asking state legislatures, asking state governors, asking state electoral officials to do the right thing,” Mr Lauro told Fox News.
“In fact, even asking vice-president [Mike] Pence was protected by free speech.”
In response, the former vice-president told CNN: “President Trump was wrong then and he is wrong now.”
“I had no right to overturn the election result,” he said.
Mr Pence has not ruled out appearing as a witness against his former boss.
